Listening to the first songs of Mind Tricks an assumption comes to my mind. This voice sounds familiar to me. And in fact, it belongs to Bjorn “Speed” Strid, the singer of Soilwork.
A first impression leads to the following conclusion: This bands works in a very determined way and produces one hit by another, breathers are not necessary. The opener Resurrection Code is characteristic for the following tracks and knows to convince with pushing riffs and an impressive refrain which is performed by a clear voice. For my taste, the songs Celestial Furnace (for this one a video was produced) and Nihilistic Overdrive, crown the highlights of the album. In these earwigs the forward dashing rhythms, the vocal performances, as well as the outstanding melodies and changes in tempo are speaking for themselves. After these two sparklers it is not the easiest thing to hold the level so high. But of course DISARMONIA MUNDI haven’t displayed there whole monition after the first songs. So the following tracks, especially the ingeniously rhythmic Liquid Wings, are a good deed for melodic-loving DeathMetal fans. Particularly commendable on Mind Tricks are the diversified drummer’s work and the well thought-out song-structures.
Certainly you can’t deny the influences of Soilwork and also In Flames. But lets be honest – how many bands are there which sound completely independently? What counts is the fun factor, and it’s extremely high on Mind Tricks!
