CORVUS CORAX present an enormous project here: They re-interpreted an re-composed the lyrics of the Carmina Burana. The famous collection of songs from the Middle Ages is well-known of course because of Carl Orff’s version, but CORVUS CORAX have made something totally different. The is symphonic and bombastic – and perfect. The seven members of the band spared no efforts: They created several instruments in their own studio. An orchestra, a choir, a vocal-ensemble, a conductor and several guests cooperated with them, for example Zeraphine-singer Sven Friedrich und Subway To Sally-violinist Frau Schmidt. Then they mixed the result in 5.1-surround-sound – and you feel as if you listen to it straight among the orchestra, the sound-quality is exhilarating. As always with CORVUS CORAX everything is hand-made, there are no electronic instruments. CORVUS CORAX have chosen a wide variety in their re-interpretation, there is medieval music from the 13th century, romantic music and even elements of modern pop rock and pop. Some tracks, like Florent Omnes sound different from the music one knows from CORVUS CORAX, it is quiet, stately and orchestra-like. Other songs like Dulcimissa in parts have the typical sound, like uptempo-bagpipe-music. It’s a sin to emphasize separate songs, you have to listen to the Cantus Buranus - so the new name that had to be changed for copyrights - as a whole and enjoy it as a gesamtkunstwerk. It’s more than impressive what CORVUS CORAX have created here!
