The extravagant title took my interest, ere I heard one single note of REPLICA’s music. Thereby the two tracks, which are named in the title – Devil and The Deep Blue Sea - form the musical frame of this ambitious work.

The style of this troop is Thrash Metal with a lot of Core elements, nothing very new, but played in downright felicitous and refreshing way. The guys manage to integrate some funny interplay, but they do not exaggerate to be mistaken as pure fun musicians. The nicely entitled song Hey Strawberry, You Would Be Looking Great On My Cake is the first catchy tune: competently played, with necessary alternation and some charm. Afterwards, the group performs a real headbanger’s hymn called Confontations, which represents every metal fan’s opinion. It describes the role of being an outsider, chosen or not! The intensely screeched lyrics get boosted by a nice rhythm and a cool melody, which will care for best mood when played live!
This enormous quality can’t be kept up till the end, but in further course, the band offers many mosh parts and felicitous lead guitars, which get contrasted by contained instrumental pieces. These calm breathers attach some additional penetration power to the aggressive tunes.

In all, Choose Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea turns out to be an entertaining and nicely done output, which convinces with fine guitar work, a variable, sometimes hysterical voice and a pinch of self-irony. The alternating sentiments are broad, including aggression and dreamy moods. In short: I like this effort!
