The only thing
I’ve known coming from Limburg up to now was the intense
smelling cheese… but fortunately not all products out of
this town disperse an enormous aroma: it is really worthwhile
to go through this sound-work Into Nevermore
with an acoustic fine-tooth comb. The first contact turns out
to be quite mangy, acutely rapid and partly chaotic. Bit by bit
the multilayer class and love to details unfolds with every additional
listening session.
I like the introducing Winter Night because of its resourcefulness.
First I want to mention the mostly infernal screeching vocals,
sometimes whispered or used in Death Metal manner to boost atmospheric
density. The band adds fast neck breaking chords, surprising changes
in mood as well as measure and the continuous variation in playing
speed. On top of everything the accompanying keyboards fit the
sound characteristics best.
In further course of Into Nevermore,
MEMBARIS manage to create a sweeping dense sentiment.
The integration of semi fast parts fits the song structures well
and loosens up the dominating high speed attacks as contrast.
MEMBARIS fulfill three important conditions in
my opinion: they know to divert, demand and dumbfound at the same
time. This Black Metal experience with complex touch conjures
a sardonic smile upon my face and lets me long for the continuation
of the trilogy called Event Horizon.
This available and eminently felicitous first part Into
Nevermore raises expectations for more. To get to
the point: there is no “but” following this review,
because MEMBARIS show no weak point till the
instrumental last point Sturm, only brownie points!
