This now sadly defunct Australian band re-released the two songs from their split with Lyrinx as an EP. It can be safely said that AUSTERE are one of the best DSBM/atmospheric black metal bands out there, and these two songs are the best proof for it. Listening to Only The Wind Remembers at the right point it is immensely cathartic and uplifting – yes, uplifting. AUSTERE might not like to be thrown into the Depressive Suicidal Black Metal category, but in this case it is not necessarily a bad thing. Desolate and Sorrow, the two band members, create two immensely intense songs by screaming their agony with such a desperation that I get goose bumps every time I listen to them. The sweeping riffs and fast to mid-tempo drums in the background complete the dreaminess of their music. As it is custom with AUSTERE the songs last 11 minutes/13 minutes respectively and this lets you dive deep into the music, forgetting everything around you. Listen to this when you feel low, at night, with candlelight.
