This album
should actually be entitled Against All Odds, or at least one
song should be named like this. Regardless of all the bad comments,
personal and commercial adversities ANATHEMA are still
there; they are still here, We’re Here Because We’re
Here, so to say and deliver finally again a hauntingly
beautiful album.
The Liverpool-based guys developed over the years, not drastically,
but considerably noticeable. They consequently continue the path
they once took with A Fine Day To Exit. Since I
had the feeling that ANATHEMA are still in a process of
a metamorphosis on their last regular record A Natural Disaster,
they have seemingly arrived their destination. With We’re
Here Because We’re Here they thoroughly deliver
a homogeneous and harmonious album. There is no search, no inner
conflict to sense out anymore. ANATHEMA emancipated on
the Alternative/Independent sector and can now self-confidently
soar up to reach new heights.
Every song on this wonderful album is an emotional gem, sometimes
a little bit more rocking, and sometimes much quiet with certain
sadness. To point a few songs is almost impossible; you have to
listen to this album in a whole.
What remains are the so typical Floyd-esque guitar lines and the
melancholy ANATHEMA is known for. What stands out is the
fact that Lee Douglas gets much more room for her voice. She supports
Vincent Cavanagh on almost every song, creating a wonderful and
dreamy mélange of singing. Second, a lot of strings and
piano get used what gives an unobtrusive symphonic touch to the
music.
ANATHEMA have found themselves and give us a mesmerizing
piece of music that grows. More and more. With every new run.
We’re Here Because We’re Here will
leave your soul addicted!
