The Mercury Arc - Silent Decay

2009-11-01 AT – Graz - Orpheum

After a long while we visited the honored Orpheum in Graz again. This location guarantees for a perfect look at the stage because of some steps as well as an outstanding sound. The concert marked the punch line of this tour, whereby the three participating bands seemed to be a perfect package, which was proved by the friendly words by all front-men and the played tricks….consequently, the mood of all musicians showed up in best manner despite the missing audience’s interest.

SILENT DECAY – public band’s rehearsal with enormous joy in playing

:: SILENT DECAY :: kicked off with very much enthusiasm and an attitude which seemed to say “we don’t care that only a few people want to listen to us”. Thereby the guys made a sympathetic impression and did not act in tough Metal-Core-attitude. Additionally, the music did not offer the typical trademarks – in contrast, the voice had a downright melodic touch and the breakdowns were not numerous. These were the reasons for a quite amusing Wall Of Death, because of only 20 participators. Apart from that, I did not get aware of any circle pits. All these deficits had no negative effect on the band’s performance. A lot of posing showed the joy in playing. What a pity that the sound was not very differentiated and the lightshow lacked of interesting spots. In the end, a solid but not exceptional impression lasted.

THE MERCURY ARC – we mix everything and we don’t care about borders

After a few minutes :: THE MERCURY ARC :: entered the stage with hardcore outfit including headbands. They used all kinds of genres, which attached a progressive touch to their tunes. Some modern elements in combination with a variable voice cared for an exceptional sound. The experiment with the rap influences was a downright deficit in my opinion, but this moment of shock lasted for only a short time fortunately. Towards the end of the show, some guys played some tricks on stage; thereby the drum kit was removed piece by piece or the singer was enwrapped with adhesive tape. In all, fun stood in the foreground and balanced the one or other failed integration of unorthodox elements. I was surprised by the variable voice of singer Dennis, who actually performed a ballad-like part in felicitous manner contributing to a positive performance overview finally.

THE SORROW – outshined their supporting bands

Afterwards:: THE SORROW :: made clear about the head-liner status in brilliant manner. The local heroes integrated many impelling parts in their tunes, whereby Metal won against Core for a bigger part :) The fans woke up and celebrated killer songs like the epic Saviour, Welcome Home. The action on stage and in the audience augmented more and more. I really appreciated the variable track Numbers Of Failure, and the strong encores Knights Of Doom and Death From A Lover’s Hand cared for extremely positive reactions. Fortunately the guys of the supporting bands showed up on stage and the audience smiled because of their underwear outfit. The performing band as well as the fans were pelted with the yearly requirement on toilet paper; we laughed at the decoration of drummer Dominik, but he played on in precise manner despite his paper mask :) Apart from these positive aspects, singer Mätze seemed to be not in best shape concerning his voice but the reason for this was his black eye. Some Nazis in Klagenfurt hurt him the day before and Mätze made a clear announcement against this scum. Conclusion: good attitude, good music, good band – that’s the way it has t be!
