This year’s E-Tropolis Festival offered, next to breathtakingly great Icelandic band Legend, two fabulous Swedish acts: Kite and HENRIC DE LA COUR; both bands under the roof of Progress Productions. After Kite played a stunning show end of August in Oberhausen, it’s now up to HENRIC DE LA COUR to come around for a short German tour. And he also made a stop in Oberhausen. At the :: Kulttempel :: this time.

Deadly tired from many nights without much sleep and early shifts I arrived at the Kulttempel and got me first another dose of caffeine. And then we had to wait. The show was already announced to start late. At the end it took a half hour more to get started with German Synth Pop duo :: BEYOND OBSESSION ::. I never heard of them before. But ok, this project just started out in 2012, with one record under their belt. And BEYOND OBSESSION played a nice show. Synth Pop as its best: catchy, melodic and highly danceable. André and Nils were in best mood, whereas singer Nils did his best to animate the crowd. He was joking, flirting and generally very talkative. Worked out fine :)
Vocal-wise he every now and then missed the right tune. Might be due to his actions and movements on stage. What I found interesting were the white boots, booth members were wearing. You can buy them and some of the fans already did as there was clearly to see.
Nice introduction, nice show!
Setlist: Louder, On My Way, Ghost Pictures, Moment Of Truth, Home, Song For The Dead, Tokio Underground, Weight Of Words, Memories Fade, Nothing Like That, Lie After Lie

Right after another coffee was needed to get finally awake. A short break and then it was up to :: HENRIC DE LA COUR :: to enter the stage. Henric was dripping of (synthetic) blood, so much, that drops ran into his eyes. not that pleasant.
Illuminated by only two spots, Henric and his guitar player Camilla Karlsson went through their set, starting with the hits and then followed by the brand new single Two Against One, which was released in April. Yes, it’s time for a new record. The last one, Mandrills, dates back to 2013.
Progress Productions’ label boss Torny once more took over the synths but stayed most of the time in the background, in the darkness, deeply hooded.
HENRIC DE LA COUR played hardly an hour but was called back to stage for an encore due to frenetic applause and screams. Unfortunately, the same vehement applause didn’t bring them back a second time. No, after Lovers the show was truly over. No need to say that the show was way too short. Too bad.
Once again a fantastic concert evening with a great Swedish band! Hach…
Lucky me, I will catch them again at the annual festival of :: Progress Productions :: at Gothenburg’s Stick Fingers. So, see you at PROGRESS 12! :) Yeah!
Setlist: Dracula, My Machine, Chasing Dark, Gothic, Two Against One, Son Of The Bitch, Grenade, Shark // Dogs, Lovers
